Lucas Valente
BIOGRAPHY
Hi there!
My name is Lucas and I come from Brazil, where I studied and had my first steps as a dance professional. Had an unconventional start formation, studying at different schools air the same time. I studied theatre, circus, ballet, graham and jazz.
At the age of 17 I got accepted in the theatre bachelor course at the University of São Paulo (in which I studied for 3 years). At the same university I did a second graduation few years later, getting a bachelor in Philosophy.
As a dancer I worked for companies and projects in Brazil, Cuba, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. Through my career I had the pleasure of working with big artists as William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Marco Goecke, Crystal Pite, Marcos Morau, Edouard Lock, Christian Spuck, Richard Siegal, Edward Clug, and many important Brazilian choreographers. Had also the chance to dive into different body techniques such as Gaga, Flying low and Passing through, Fighting Monkey, Buto,
Viewpoints, Capoeira and many Brazilian folk and regional dances.
My drive for choreography started as early as my dancing career. My first creation (in collaboration with my partner) was at the age of 19 (2009), and got awarded the "best contemporary choreography" prize at a local festival in São Paulo. Since then I kept choreographing small pieces for my friends and colleagues. My first big piece came few years later, in 2014, for a program at the São Paulo dance company.
In the past few years I started investing more seriously in the choreography career, creating more and bigger pieces, also participating with my works in the big choreographic competitions in Europe.
